Grey is On Trend

Grey hair color has quite a checkered past, initially considered a not-so-subtle sign of aging. While either hiding your grey hairs or accepting them by embracing a more mature appearance has been the norm, this is no longer the case! That’s right: Grey is the new black! More women of all ages are loving the grey locks adding a new spin on the look by playing with more chic and modern styles.

Learn how to embrace the grey with these color and style tips. Grey is In!  Due to the recent trend, women are adopting grey as their preferred new hair color. So what has changed recently to make grey the new “it” color? Here’s a look: Grey is an ultra-flattering shade on almost everyone and just looks cool! Improvements in coloring have resulted in more vibrant, glamorous colors. Greys are very versatile, allowing the wearer to easily go up or down a shade and still look completely fab. Whether your hair is naturally grey or not, a grey wig is a great (grey-t?) style choice!

What’s Your Number?

Finding the perfect grey shade for your wig style is simple…. Kind of. Grey is, of course, not “just” grey. Wigs are available in light greys, dark greys, brown/grey mixes, black/grey mixes, etc. The trick is knowing what you want, then finding your color description code.

Generally, color description codes span across wig designers with some notable differences, such as plainly stating the color instead of a number (Medium Grey, Brown w/ 35% Grey, etc.) or having a super cute or delicious sounding name, such as Snowfall or Martini.

Color description codes work on a number system with 1 being the darkest and growing lighter the higher the number goes. Grey shades start in the 30’s, combining multiple shades of brown with varying percentages of grey. The lightest color is 60, which is a fully white shade. If you ever feel unsure of what the color will look like, we can provide a more thorough explanation. We offer color consultations, allowing you to either send a hair swatch or picture to find the perfect color match for you.
